# TikTok, simply: building a persona without adult content

## In brief

On TikTok, content is mainstream by construction: the rules in force since September 13, 2025 do not allow nudity, sexual activity or sexual services, and make significant body exposure or suggestive content ineligible for the For You feed. TikTok does not sell, it builds a persona through its open topics. The link leads to a link page or to Telegram, never to a sexual service.

## What you will be able to do

- Cite what TikTok publishes on nudity, suggestive content and links, and deduce what can be published.
- Build a persona on TikTok with mainstream content, and choose a sustainable rhythm.
- Describe the channel's limits: lost accounts, no adult content, link in bio.

TikTok is the network where reach can be the largest, and the one where the room for maneuver on content is the narrowest. This lesson starts with what TikTok publishes, because everything else follows from it.

## What TikTok publishes

TikTok's Community Guidelines are dated: the version consulted was "Released August 14, 2025" and "Effective September 13, 2025", and the page announces an update on September 24, 2026. Reread them on that date.

On nudity and sexual content, the "Sensitive and Mature Themes" section states: "we don't allow certain types of body exposure or sexualized behavior", including "Nudity or sexual activity", "Sexual Services", and "Sexually suggestive acts or significant body exposure involving youth". For adults, the same page adds a second layer: "Some content, like significant adult body exposure or sexually suggestive behavior involving adults, is age-restricted and ineligible for the FYF".

The page defines its terms, and those definitions are useful because they describe exactly what a creator account tends to publish. "Significant Body Exposure": "Being mostly unclothed or nearly nude. This includes implied nudity or wearing clothing that barely covers genitals, buttocks, or nipples". "Sexualized Framing": "Content that focuses on clothed intimate body parts through camera angles, editing, body positioning, or other methods and techniques". "Sexually Suggestive Acts": "Movements or actions meant to arouse, like imitating sexual acts or highlighting intimate body parts", with the examples "thrusting, striptease".

On links, TikTok does not publish a general ban on outbound links. What it publishes is in the section on regulated goods and services. It defines trade as "The sale, purchase, exchange, giveaway, or redirection of goods or services", which "includes posting links, sharing contact or location information, or directing people off-platform", and it lists among prohibited goods and services "Sexual services, including solicitation or sexcamming". The same section states that "In some regions and on LIVE, our treatment of this type of content may be different".

Finally, the overview page explains that content falling under the "FYF Ineligible" standards "won't be recommended in the FYF". That is the published definition of what the industry calls a "shadowban", and it is worth more than the word.

## What that imposes: mainstream content

The conclusion is simple and cannot be worked around. On TikTok, content is mainstream by construction. No nudity, no suggestive content, no framing on the body, no link or contact details pointing to a sexual service.

That does not make TikTok useless; it gives it a precise role. TikTok does not sell, TikTok **builds a persona**. A creator exists there through her open topics, the ones defined in [the persona sheet](/modules/marketing/persona-and-content-plan/): what she does with her days, what makes her laugh, what she knows how to do. The people who follow her for that find her again elsewhere, and elsewhere is where the sale happens.

The operations that fail on TikTok are almost always the ones that try to do Instagram's or X's job there. They post suggestive content, lose recommendations, then the account, and conclude that TikTok "does not work".

## The formats

**Short videos** are TikTok's format, and the only one that matters at the start. One idea per video, an opening that holds attention within one second, an open topic of the persona. Editing and subtitles are done with the tools presented in module 8.

**Lives** exist and expose the persona in real time. TikTok states that its treatment of regulated content may be different on LIVE, without publishing the details; so consider lives as more exposed, not less, and keep them for a persona that is already established.

## The bio and the link

A two-line bio: a first name, a topic. No content platform name, no abbreviation, no symbol standing in for one.

The link leads to a link page or to Telegram, and that choice is covered in [the funnel lesson](/modules/marketing/threads-to-telegram-funnel/). Read the definition of trade cited above before deciding: a link whose visible function is to direct people to a sexual service falls within what TikTok describes.

## The rhythm

One video a day is a common rhythm and sustainable with a scheduler, because mainstream videos are produced in batches: one afternoon of filming gives a week of posts. Regularity matters more than volume, and an account that posts every day for a month learns faster than an account that posts ten videos on the first day.

## Measurement

The module's three numbers, views, followers gained, link clicks, per account and per week, in the table from [the account hygiene lesson](/modules/marketing/account-hygiene-and-measurement/). On TikTok, views vary enormously from one video to the next; never judge a week on one video, and never judge the channel on views. The only number that says whether TikTok is useful is the number of people who arrive in the conversation having mentioned TikTok.

## The limits, stated plainly

**Accounts get lost.** A TikTok account is a consumable like any other, and the replacement queue from the hygiene lesson applies here too. TikTok also cites, among what it treats as spam, "Using automation to run many accounts".

**No adult content, ever.** Not on the account, not hinted at in the bio, not in the comments.

**The link is fragile.** The published definition of trade includes "directing people off-platform" for prohibited goods; a neutral link to a link page remains the most cautious practice, without any practice being guaranteed.

## Key takeaways

- TikTok publishes, in its guidelines in effect since September 13, 2025, that it does not allow "certain types of body exposure or sexualized behavior", including "Nudity or sexual activity", "Sexual Services".
- The same page states that "Some content, like significant adult body exposure or sexually suggestive behavior involving adults, is age-restricted and ineligible for the FYF", the For You feed.
- TikTok defines the trade of prohibited goods as including "posting links, sharing contact or location information, or directing people off-platform", and cites "Sexual services, including solicitation" among prohibited goods.
- On TikTok, content is mainstream by construction: the persona is built there, the selling happens elsewhere.

## Do this now

Write your TikTok editorial line. Thirty minutes.

1. Open the TikTok page cited in the sources, section Sensitive and Mature Themes, and copy into your file the sentence about the For You feed.
2. Take the open topics from your persona sheet and write five short video ideas that have nothing to do with the content being sold.
3. Write a two-line bio without any content platform name, and decide on the link destination.
4. Add a line for this account in the acquisition tab of the spreadsheet, with views, followers gained and clicks, per week.
